Nashville Parent, Rutherford Parent, Sumner Parent and
Williamson Parent Readers Name Lance Taylor “2010 Children First Honoree”

Guild Elementary School Principal Lance Taylor is the third annual recipient of the “Children First Award” determined by readers of Nashville Parent, Rutherford Parent, Sumner Parent and Williamson Parent magazines.

The Children First Award honors and recognizes unique individuals in the Middle Tennessee region whose tireless efforts benefit the very youngest among us in the community.

Ask the faculty/staff, parents and students at Guild Elementary School about Principal Lance Taylor, and the response is overwhelmingly positive, both inside the school and in the community.  Given that the school has a poverty rate of 78 percent, Taylor oversees a food program that feeds children on weekends and during breaks.  Taylor is highly involved with students and is known for going above the norm to ensure they attain maximum benefits.  Guild has nearly 200 students out of zone, and teacher Jan Graves says, “it’s because they heard Guild is the most caring and loving school with the BEST principal in Sumner County.”

This readers’ choice award resulted in hundreds of submissions from area parents whose children are touched by the lives of the nominees.  A panel of judges consisting of the magazines’ editors and publisher selected Taylor based on the over-whelming amount of comments from parents and colleagues who spoke in detail about Taylor’s tireless leadership and the passion he has for the children he serves in his community.

On Monday, Dec. 20, Nashville Parent/Sumner Parent/Rutherford Parent/Williamson Parent Publisher Stewart Day will make a special surprise presentation to Taylor at 8:30 a.m. at the school, located at 1018 South Water Ave. in Gallatin.

Past Children First Award recipients are Billie Little (Discovery Center at Murfree Spring) and Bonnie Spear (Blakemore Children’s Center).
